WHITE COUNTY GOVERNMENT

County government in Arkansas mirrors the three-tier system of government established by our Founding Fathers in America. The executive branch and the judicial branch is represented by the County Judge. The legislative branch is represented by the Quorum Court. The Quorum Court appropriates revenue into line items to be expended by the elected officials. The Quorum Court creates ordinances which govern the citizens who reside in the county, thus fulfilling the legislative branch role. The court is made up of 13 districts with equal population representation. The County Judge oversees the budget and ensures the adherence to ordinances passed by the Quorum Court. Checks and balances exist within these three tiers which also mirrors checks and balances in the federal government. County government, as it is today, was established by the Arkansas legislature in 1974 with Amendment 55.
